The third edition of the Ultra Race Romania was held from August 8 to 18, 2023. As a runner and media partner, Outdoor And News had the privilege of being present on this stage trail. Let’s return to this exceptional event which highlighted the magnificent landscapes of Romania.
For the 2023 edition, faithful to the tradition of the previous two years, the race covers a distance of 250 km divided into 6 stages, with the additional challenge of self-sufficiency.
As soon as the runners arrive on the square in front of Parliament, it becomes clear that the event is much more than just a competition. A warm and family atmosphere immediately envelops the participants.

The First Ultra Race Romania – Exploring a Land of Legend
“When we first thought about this race we promised ourselves to bring the competitors to a part of Romania where “legends meet”, so that they would have the opportunity to run in a beautiful and legendary landscape, and have the journey of a lifetime. Each stage is designed to instantly transport the runners to places full of stories that cannot wait to be discovered”, confessed the 2 race directors, Andrei Gligor and Daniel Nica, two ultra running friends who have raced multi-stage self-sufficient races all over the world in recent years.

Romania Journal | Ultra Race Romania, a 250km adventure in the wilderness of Buzau mountains
The management team together with dedicated volunteers, medical staff and media team did everything in their power for each competitor to see the end of this beautiful dream. 9 “legends” finished the race on the last day. The winner, Davide Vitali (IT) managed an incredible result of 38 hours and 56 minutes for the whole 250 km. Each and everyone present here wrote his own legend in the Romanian wilderness.

The first reward is the stunning scenery, the encounters with beautiful people, and the friendships gained in the process. And to conclude it in Romanian style, the entire adventure ends with a two-day trip to Dracula’s Castle and Peles Castle, giving a glimpse into Romanian history and culture and delving into Romanian cuisine and traditions.
